News Highlight: Public Policy Workshop - Oct 5–6, 2009

Committees

A number of committees carry out the work of the Academy.

Leadership Committee

This committee focuses on leadership development including succession planning, mentorship, and leadership education. It also oversees the ACEN scholarship award and is examining options for leadership awards.

Policy Committee

The Policy Committee's purpose is to draft position/policy statements on behalf of ACEN. It has developed a tool to screen possible topics for position papers. Members of ACEN may submit ideas for position statements to be evaluated against the policy-screening tool by the committee. Those accepted by the committee are assigned to a committee-working group to draft the policy/position statement, which is then reviewed by the whole committee. To date, the committee has prepared three position statements.

Membership and Governance Committee

This committee is particularly important as the Academy transitions from an informal network to an established national organization. The committee has developed by-laws for the association which can be found in the "members only" section of the website.

The Academy's objectives are to:

  • Influence and participate in setting the directions for health care policy and dialogue in Canada
  • Contribute to the alignment and advancement of the national nursing practice, education, research, and leadership agendas
  • Develop strong strategic coalitions and partnerships with other health care leadership groups
  • Support the development of current and emerging executive nurse leaders in Canada.
  • Provide a forum to discuss and share strategies related to nursing, education, research and leadership
  • Support the editor and the editorial board in providing the Canadian Journal of Nursing Leadership
